Ms. Obermeyer's Back!

By Jacob Key '20

Every year, DHS recruits new talented teachers to join the team here at DHS to better the educational community. This year DHS welcomes Ms. Obermeyer to the physical education department. Although she joined the department halfway through the 2017-2018 school year, this is her first official year as a Physical Education teacher. As a Long Term Substitute last year, an opportunity arose that granted Ms. Obermeyer a full-time position here. Ms. Obermeyer is now part of ensuring that every student here at DHS gets the best and professional physical education possible while taking into consideration every student's health along with balancing joy and excitement into her classes.

Ms. Obermeyer earned her degree in Physical Education at Wesley College, where she dedicated her time to accomplish her childhood dream of becoming a GYM teacher. ¨ The idea of becoming a Physical Education Teacher came to me in high school. I always liked Physical Education class and I was athletic from the age of 3,¨ Ms. Obermeyer explains. Ms. Obermeyer played lacrosse and ran track in high school and college.

Ms. Obermeyer came to Dunellen as a substitute teacher first and then as a maternity leave replacement. She states that ¨The things that I have noticed about DHS that sets it apart from other districts I worked in, is the small town feel¨. Ms. Obermeyer has also had the opportunity to substitute in many other schools including Lawrence Middle School, New Egypt High school and Perth Amboy High School.

Aside from teaching, Ms. Obermeyer enjoys going to concerts and live sporting events. We asked Ms. Obermeyer, ¨If you decide against becoming a teacher, what would you like to be doing right now?¨ She responded that she would like to have a job in law enforcement.
